6th Grade FCS includes Child Development and Care and Food and Nutrition units of study.  For the Child Development and Care Unit, students will examine the responsibilities of babysitting, what steps to take to prepare, and what to do to prevent any emergency from taking place.  They will learn the stages of development and what activities are approprite for each stage.  In the Food and Nutrition Unit, they will learn about MyPlate, the recommendations and ways to improve personal plate choices.  They will learn, identify and practice kitchen and food safety and about cooking tools and utensils.  Students will identify the information found on food labels and recipe parts and the importance of measuring, abbreviations, conversions and cooking methods.  They will be able to demonstrate proper table manners and have the opportunity to work as a team practicing food preparations skills in their kitchen assignments preparing foods like muffins, chocolate chip cookies, brownies and eggs.
